Why we built this life.

Fuck norms, Live life.

Onthefreeside isn’t just a place—it’s a way of living. A reminder that life doesn’t have to be a never-ending to-do list. Out here, we slow down, focus on what actually matters, and make space for the good stuff—building, cooking, laughing, sharing. It’s about real connections, late-night bonfires, hands in the dirt, and feeling at home in yourself and the world around you. Less pressure, more presence. Less bullshit, more real. And a hell of a lot more fun.

At the end of the day, we’re just two people who want to live life on our terms and have a damn good time doing it. We’re all gonna die someday, and we never know when—so why not make the most of it?

Our dream? To build two incredible spots—one deep in the Swedish forest, one somewhere warm—where people can do just that. A place to hang out, create, and live fully. No rules, no rush, just life.

We just want a life that filled with love, laughter and a lot of fucking fun!

Meet Indie & Joel.

We’re Indie and Joel—partners in life, adventure, and the beautiful chaos of building Onthefreeside. What started as a simple dream of living closer to nature turned into something bigger—a space where people come together to build, cook, create, and break free from the ordinary. From April to September, we open our home in the Nordic forest to volunteers, retreat guests, and anyone looking for connection, community, and a real taste of Swedish summer.

Indie is the creative storm behind it all—always scheming up the next big thing, whether it’s a DIY build, a wild garden experiment, or a party under the stars. She thrives on movement, storytelling, and bringing people together.

Joel, on the other hand, makes everything feel cinematic. With a background in the restaurant world, he knows how to turn a simple meal into something unforgettable—mixing up drinks from the garden, plating up magic, and making sure no one ever leaves hungry.

Onthefreeside is where life slows down, laughter gets loud, and something is always happening—bonfires, foraging trips, spontaneous projects, late-night board games.

For us, being open and understanding about race, gender, and sexual orientation isn’t just something we believe in—it’s who we are. Everyone is welcome. Always.
